Arcadia Dream to Target 2016 Australasian Oaks

April 21st, 2016

Talented filly Arcadia Dream will be set for the 2016 Australasian Oaks (2000m) after an impressive win in the Group 2 WATC Derby (2400m) at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse over the weekend.

Arcadia Dream drifted in betting markets in the hours leading up to jump but did her chances of success no harm whatsoever when jumping well and taking an ideal position in transit within the classy field of eleven.

Settling into a good rhythm and producing a good run over the back straight and rounding onto the final straight, the Domesday filly mustered an impressive turn of foot in the late stages to hit the line half a length ahead of closest rival Who Dat Singa.

Prominent owner Bob Peters concedes the filly faces a tough task in emulating the efforts of stable mate Delicacy, who won both the Group 1 Australasian Oaks and Group 1 South Australian Derby (2400m) in 2015, but is confident her run on Saturday suggests she is up to the mark.

“I was a little bit concerned about her getting the distance,” Peters told The West Australian.

“Obviously the way the race was run did suit her.

“She was caught in the Oaks out and without cover…things just didn’t work out for her.

“She was a little unlucky behind Perfect Reflection earlier, but in saying that Perfect Reflection was probably the better filly at those distances.

“It is big boots for her to fill, but she has pulled up well.

“She will have a week in the paddock at home and we will keep an eye on her.

First Impressions is OK and she might go as well.”

Arcadia Dream has been a strong and consistent performer for leading trainer Grant Williams through her entire racing career so far; posting five wins and as many minors through twelve competitive starts.

A standout over the Perth Summer Carnival, Arcadia Dream finished second in the Group 3 WA Championships Stakes (1600m) and won the Listed Aquanita Stakes (1800m) most notably.

Resuming this time for fourth in the Listed Challenge Stakes (1500m) on February 20th, Arcadia Dream ran second in the Listed Ascot 1000 Guineas (1800m) and won the Listed Natasha Stakes (2200m); progressing to second in the Group 3 WA Oaks (2400m) in her only other start prior to the WATC Derby.
