2014 Australasian Oaks Tips and Betting Preview

A capacity field of 16 plus two emergencies has been confirmed to line up for this weekend’s featured Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville racecourse, offering punters exceptional value for money and several key opportunities to place a winning bet.

Having returned to racing in typically strong form this time in, Girl In Flight is currently sole occupant of the top line of betting for success in the 2014 Australasian Oaks at event $4 odds, ahead of May’s Dream ($4.20), Scratchy Bottom ($6.50) and In Masquerade ($10).

Will Girl In Flight break through for a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing, or will one of her talented opponents find the Oaks post in the clear?

Girl In Flight ($4)

Claiming an impressive three wins from as many starts over her maiden racing preparation in the 2013 spring, Girl In Flight has continued her impressive run of form in four events this time in; finishing third in the Group 1 The Vanity (1400m) first-up before finishing a fighting fourth amongst classy company in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) on March 8th. Displaying a keen turn of foot to finish third in the well-fought Listed Alexandra Stakes (1600m), the Commands filly returned to the winner’s circle with a comfortable victory in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) last time out. Despite being allocated the awkward barrier 13, trainer Robbie Griffiths is confident retaining jockey Matthew Allen is once again get the best from his stayer this weekend.

May’s Dream ($4.20)

A particularly consistent contender over the 2013 spring, May’s Dream was unlucky to finish second in both the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) and Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) in consecutive events. Returning with a competitive run for fourth in a minor event of 1200 metres, May’s Dream claimed the Pantry Packer Handicap (1523m) with ease on March 29th before battling on for third in the Schweppervescence Stakes most recently. While allocated the wide barrier 15 for this weekend’s feature, the New Approach filly will again be partnered by jockey Brad Rawiller and represents a great chance for success on Saturday.

Rezoned ($17)

Having hit strong form over her two most recent races, Rezoned arguably offers punter the best value for money in betting markets for the 2014 Australasian Oaks at particularly generous $17 odds, or $4.90 for a place. Steadily building to the task this time in, the Zabeel filly overcame a poor run for eighth in The Vanity to win the Highview Accounting Service Fillies Maiden (1600m) and finish second in the Polytrack Fillies Maiden (1600m) last time out. While allocated barrier 12, trainer Robert Smerdon is confident of his chances this weekend with leading jockey Craig Williams confirmed to take the ride.
