Displaying a keen turn of foot to finish third in the well-fought Listed Alexandra Stakes (1600m), the Commands filly returned to the winner’s circle with a comfortable victory in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) last time out. Despite being allocated the awkward barrier 13, trainer Robbie Griffiths is confident retaining jockey Matthew Allen is once again get the best from his stayer this weekend.
May’s Dream ($4.20)
A particularly consistent contender over the 2013 spring, May’s Dream was unlucky to finish second in both the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) and Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) in consecutive events. Returning with a competitive run for fourth in a minor event of 1200 metres, May’s Dream claimed the Pantry Packer Handicap (1523m) with ease on March 29th before battling on for third in the Schweppervescence Stakes most recently. While allocated the wide barrier 15 for this weekend’s feature, the New Approach filly will again be partnered by jockey Brad Rawiller and represents a great chance for success on Saturday.
Having hit strong form over her two most recent races, Rezoned arguably offers punter the best value for money in betting markets for the 2014 Australasian Oaks at particularly generous $17 odds, or $4.90 for a place. Steadily building to the task this time in, the Zabeel filly overcame a poor run for eighth in The Vanity to win the Highview Accounting Service Fillies Maiden (1600m) and finish second in the Polytrack Fillies Maiden (1600m) last time out. While allocated barrier 12, trainer Robert Smerdon is confident of his chances this weekend with leading jockey Craig Williams confirmed to take the ride.
