The Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival is heating up with the 2011 Australasian Oaks set to be run on Saturday March 26, 2011.
The $300,000 Australasian Oaks is held annually at Morphettville Racecourse and features some of the best three-year-old filly stayers in the country.
Contested over a distance of 2000 metres, the 2011 Australasian Oaks is a set-weight race, with all fillies carrying 56 kilograms.
One race that is always used as a lead up race to the Australasian Oaks and a preview of a runner’s form is the Group 3 Auraria Stakes (1800m), which is run on Saturday March 14, 2011.
Horses that run in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks are often then targeted at the Group 3 South Australian Fillies Classic (2,400m) held this year on Saturday April 9, 2011.
Punters can try a betting double for the two races with online bookmaker Luxbet.
Trainer Michael Hickmott is targeting his filly Always Discreet for a 2011 Australasian Oaks start.
“She’s already been Stakes-placed so she qualifies for all the good races,” Mr Hickmott said.
And he’s hoping that the Australasian Oaks is only the beginning of Always Discreet’s success.
“She’s got a lot of ability,” Mr Hickmott said.
“Hopefully she can keep going along and performing.”
